Professional Bike Fitting PDF Print E-mail

Option 1

All bikes are fitted by trained members of staff. Bike fitting entails, firstly selecting the correct type of bike for each discipline, for example

•    Mountain Bikes: for off road/forest use
•    Front Suspension Hybrids:  designed for a mixture of commuting, family trails, leisure riding
•    Flat Bar Road Bikes: for fast road/lane use, fitness and commuting
•    Road Bikes: for fitness, training, speed work and competitive riding

fit_chartWhen fitting bikes we take into account that not every brand of bike is suitable for every rider as we are all very different shapes and sizes, some people carry their height in there torso, some carry it in the legs. Because each brand of bike have very different geometries (longer or shorter top tubes, lower or higher head tubes and lower or higher bottom brackets) we spend the time to ensure that the bike is suitable for the shape of the individual.

This applies to both ladies and gents bikes. Some ladies will require a gents geometry according to their height, leg and torso length as the proportions of a ladies specific bike may not be suitable. In this instance ladies specific parts will be tailored e.g. ladies saddle, ladies handlebars and crank length etc.

When sizing the customer we set the saddle at the correct height so that the rider can extend their leg correctly ensuring maximum efficiency and return for effort. We also check the position of the rider’s knee to prevent injuries and strains. Stem changes are essential so that the rider is in full control of the bike, can reach the handlebars without straining the neck or back and can remain comfortable for the length of their bike ride.

This is an individual preference as some riders prefer a more relaxed position for leisurely riding or are more flexible and prefer a lower more aggressive position to enable maximum speed. We carry a range stems at different lengths and heights to alter the riders position. We advised that customers spend at least 30 mins with us so that we can do our job properly and that you purchase the bike that is right for you.

This fitting service and change of parts is free of charge and all customers are given the opportunity to actually ride and compare the bikes so that you can make an informed decision.

Option 2

Specialized Body Geometry Fit Integration Technology (BG F.I.T.) This 3 hour fitting session is designed to help cyclists ride longer, faster and in greater comfort.

bgfit

BG F.I.T. is a proprietary bicycle fit system consisting of trained fit technicians, specialist fitting tools, a unique fit assessment process and ergonomically enhanced bicycles and equipment. We have 2 trained members of staff (Clive Beacon and Luke Bradford) who have qualified as B.G Fit technicians at the specialized headquarters on an intensive course.

We are all very different in height, shapes, sizes, have varying degrees of flexibility and other anatomical differences. These sometimes small differences are multiplied by the time you spend on a bicycle and repetition involved in cycling. Simple tasks like pedalling and handlebar position become even more critical for longer rides or intense effort. These are a few reasons why we can all benefit from a personal fit system by a trained BG F.I.T. technician. The session is available for those who want to fine tune their current bike or for those looking to invest in a new bike. The 3 hour session is £120 and is booked by appointment only. Please phone (01432 261211) to book your appointment with either Clive or Luke.
